 unce that our book of the month for March 2023 is Black Cake by Charmaine 
 Wilkerson. This poignant and captivating debut novel tells the story of a 
 family shaped by the choices of its matriarch and the long-held secrets th
 at come to light after her passing.\n\nSet in present-day California\, the
  novel follows siblings Byron and Benny as they grapple with the inheritan
 ce left behind by their late mother\, Eleanor Bennett. In addition to a fa
 mily recipe for a black cake with a long history\, Eleanor leaves behind a
  voice recording sharing a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimm
 er who flees her island home under suspicion of murder. As the siblings de
 lve deeper into their mother's revelations\, they must confront the betray
 als\, secrets\, and memories that have shaped their relationships and thei
 r family history.\n\nCharmaine Wilkerson's beautifully written novel chall
