As spring blossoms, we’re welcoming a powerful new read into our Black Women Connect community! For our April Book Club, we’ll be diving into Grown Women—a stunning debut novel by Sarai Johnson that explores the intricate beauty, tension, and resilience of four generations of Black women navigating identity, healing, and legacy.

About the Book

In Grown Women, we meet Evelyn, Charlotte, Corinna, and Camille—a lineage of complex, unforgettable women each seeking healing on their own terms. From the dignified intellect of Evelyn to Charlotte’s hard-earned cynicism, and Corinna’s hopeful optimism, their intergenerational relationships are marked by both love and hurt.

When baby Camille enters their world, she becomes not only a new beginning, but also a mirror reflecting everything they long to heal. Together, these women grapple with how to nurture her with the softness and understanding they may not have received themselves. But can love transcend old wounds?

Set against a backdrop of Southern roots and modern urban life, this novel is an emotional, deeply moving story about family, forgiveness, and the freedom to choose your own path. Sarai Johnson’s prose is elegant and incisive, painting a rich portrait of Black womanhood today.
