Founded by Surranna Sandy in 2017, Black Women Connect Book Club Black Women Connect is for Black Women who are looking to make new friends and connect. In addition to our core book club, other activities include special members only brunches, thematic events, retreats, drinks and dinners and other social engagement. Though we started with members in Toronto during COVID-19 we switched to Zoom and saw increase in members from across Canada and the United States!

How it works

Each month we choose a book – always by a Black Author from across the diaspora -and use it as the foundation to discuss our own lives as black women – we, read, discuss, listen, reflect, renew, and yes, drink & eat! BWC purpose is to inform, empower, inspire, and enrich each member’s life through the privilege of reading and connecting with each other.

Our Black Women Connect Book Club mission is to bring Black Women together who love to read fiction and nonfiction books written by writers of African descent for meaningful conversations, connections and socialization. Each month we choose a book and use it as the foundation to discuss our own lives as black women – we, read, discuss, listen, reflect, renew, and yes, drink & eat!

Black Women Book Club purpose is to inform, empower, inspire, and enrich each member’s life through the privilege of reading and connecting with each other.
