Writer-in-Residence Program
Supporting Emerging Black Women Writers
We are excited to announce the development of our new Writer-in-Residence Program, a significant initiative aimed at nurturing and advancing the talents of emerging Black women writers. This program will provide selected writers with the invaluable time, space, and resources needed to focus intensively on their craft.
Our residents will be hosted at partnering cultural institutions, where they will have access to inspiring and supportive environments perfect for creative work. These residencies are designed to offer an escape from the daily distractions, allowing writers to immerse themselves fully in their projects.
To further support their development, residents will participate in regular workshops led by established authors and literary professionals. These workshops will provide essential feedback, foster skill development, and create a collaborative learning environment. Writers will have the chance to refine their work, experiment with new ideas, and receive guidance from experienced mentors.
Public readings will be a cornerstone of the Writer-in-Residence Program. These events will give residents the opportunity to share their work with the community, gain exposure, and build their audience. These readings will highlight the creative achievements of our writers and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of our community by bringing diverse voices to the forefront.
The impact of our Writer-in-Residence Program will extend beyond individual participants. By supporting Black women writers, we aim to diversify the literary landscape and ensure that a broader range of experiences and perspectives are represented in literature. This program will help elevate the voices of Black women, providing them with the recognition and opportunities they deserve.
