Event Type

Join Black Women Connect for our October Book Club as we come together to discuss Score by Kennedy Ryan.

This month, we lean into a powerful, emotional, and deeply engaging story that explores love, healing, ambition, and what it means to choose yourself while navigating relationships, desire, and personal growth.

We continue our in-person gatherings, with a hybrid option available for those joining online. Join us in downtown Toronto at King and Peter Street for an evening of connection, reflection, and real conversation.

About the Book

Score is a second-chance romance about Verity Hill, a screenwriter, and Wright “Monk” Bellamy, a musician, who are reunited more than ten years after their college romance ended. They are forced back into each other’s lives while working on a Harlem Renaissance biopic, with Verity writing the script and Monk composing the score. The book also includes themes of Black art, mental health, LGBTQ+ representation, and historical figures such as Gladys Bentley.

What to Expect

During our discussion, we will explore:

Love, desire, and emotional vulnerability
Ambition, success, and personal identity
Healing from past experiences and emotional wounds

The emotional depth and complexity of Kennedy Ryan’s storytelling
